Challenges & Solutions:
This new facility is the fifth child care location for owners Pat and Kathy Hannell. The plan was dictated by the difficult curving corner site and a desire to keep play areas at the rear of the property. Aesthetics blend with both adjacent commercial and residential neighbors.
The center can accommodate 206 children, ranging from infant to 5 years, bringing much needed childcare to Huntley. The plan is organized around a central articulated corridor with classrooms located on both sides of the corridor. A central axes corridor bisects the building and provides access to the rear protected play area. The play area is divided into two secured zones, one for older children, and a smaller zone for younger preschoolers.
Due to time an budget constraints, a precast exterior wall construction was used. The precast panels were designed to simulate brick construction, with decorative quoins at the front entry vestibule.
