Challenges & Solutions:
The expansion of the Marengo Park District was the result of a growing community and an informational survey sent to residents. Two primary needs were identified; first the growing childcare services needed more space, and second the residents wanted fitness facilities since none were available locally.
The Park District also wanted to expand it’s program offerings with a large multipurpose room, and ballet studio. The existing 8,000 sq.ft. building was extensively renovated to create a large administration department, new larger service kitchen, and a seniors area.
Adding to the existing “T” shaped building and creating a courtyard allowed for a uniform looking structure. The new entrance became a focal point serving as the hub and control point for the fitness and administration functions of the facility. The child care wing uses a separate secured entry.
