Challenges & Solutions:
The Little People Playtime Preschool was the dream of Rosemary Kesse, the Hampshire Park District Preschool Director for twenty five years. This seven classroom preschool was designed to be reminiscent of the one-room country school houses found in the midwest. It’s modest proportions and traditional detailing allow the preschool to blend in to the surrounding residential neighborhood.
Concerns from adjacent neighbors led to creating a green space buffer between the houses and the new building. Existing trees, an elevated soccer field and a paved walking path determined the final building location.
One of the classrooms serves as a multipurpose room and has a permanent stage for productions, the room also was designed as a safe room for emergencies.
